Baiyun Tower

It is said that it was the place for Lv Dongbin, the famous Taoist in the Tang Dynasty to cultivate. The whole architecture looks very grand and unique. The works of stone carvings and inscriptions here are of high historical and artistic value. In 1992, Hubei government listed it as a key historical and cultural site under its protection.

The whole building is consisted of the Studying Rostrum, Baiyun Building, Shanhuang Temple, Taihe Pavilion, the Immortal Taoist Hall; the courtyard, city wall, etc.

Baiyun Building has the architectural style with cave, rostrum and pavilion. Baiyun Cave has another name: Taiping Cave. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Jiao created Taiping Taoism. His Taoists recited Taiping scriptures here. Therefore, the building year of Taiping Cave could be traced back to the Eastern Han Dynasty. There are three rooms at Taiping Cave, with the arched roofs. The front room is very spacious. There is Xieyue Cave at the north of the middle room. There lays Lv Dongbin’s image at the back room of Taiping Cave. There is a niche at the west of the back room. It is very quiet there. At the entrance of Baiyun Cave, there are two scripts “卧云”, with two dragon relieves under them. At two sides of the entrance, there stand four stone pillars, which carved with relieves of flowers, trees, birds and animals.
