Kigelia is originally a melon planted in front of and behind the house by farmers in Baiyan Village, Changxing. Its seeds are often presented to relatives and friends after being stir-fried. Over the past few years, with the considerable support of the government, kigelia seeds flourished in Baiyan as an industry.  Baiyan kigelia seeds, originally named Gualou (Mongolian Snakegourd) seeds, have the effects of clearing away the lung heat, resolving phlegm, relieving a cough, moisturizing the intestine and relaxing the bowels, etc, according to Bencao Gangmu(Compendium of Materia Medica) and all dictionaries of Chinese traditional medicine.
