Built in the seventeenth year of the Republic of China (1928), it was first named Mingxing (Star) Grand Drama House and was inaugurated in September 26th in the next year. It invited Shanghai Niujia (Niu Family) Theatrical Company and Fuguichun Theatrical Company to present Peking opera. In the twenty first year of the Republic of China, it was rebuilt into a two-storied drama house of half timber construction. It was denominated as “C Hangzhou Grand Drama House”. The horizontal tablet over the gate was inscribed by Yu Youren, a calligrapher and a patriarch of the Republic of China. It has 900 seats, which is classified into four classes of stall, gallery, box and backseat. The stage is in the shape of half moon (the size is unknown). The performances center on singing Peking opera.
