Shell Carving Picture, Lianyungang

The craftsmen take advantage of the natural color, texture and shape of the shell and make the shell carving picture through the procedures of cutting and rubbing as well as embedding according to the design requirements of the patterns. The Shell carving picture has fine workmanship and elegant decoration. Some shells are cut and rubbed as thin as the wing of cicada; some are as small as rice; some are as slender as hair; others are as bright as pearl. In order to make every line and every part of design of the picture have distinct colors with appropriate light and shade, craftsmen carefully select spiral shells with original colors to process so that the hue of the original picture looks vivid and distinct, for example, they use red snails to make camellia or pink snails to make lotus.
