The Drum Tower Park, with the Drum Tower and the Bell Pavilion as its represented images, locates in the centre of Nanjing . The Drum, a Qing-dynasty (1644--1911) reconstruction, was built over the 14th-century Ming foundations. The tower composed of two parts, the pavilion and the platform.
There are two Tower big drums, 24 small drums and other ceremonial music instruments in the Drum Tower of Ming Dynasty. Besides, there is a tea-room at the top of the tower offering a fine view of the city.
The hexagonal Bell Pavilion, also originally erected in the Ming dynasty, holds a huge one-ton bronze bell and a memorial hall. It is said the hall was built for the two daughters of an artisan, who was ordered by the emperor to cast the bell otherwise he would be killed. According to the legend, although the artisan tried hard to produce a correct blend of metals for the bronze, he failed. One day when his two daughters played around him, an accident happened: the two girls threw themselves into the smelter, whereupon the composition of the alloy was miraculously perfected. For the result of this filial sacrifice, the artisan was literally saved by the bell certain execution. Therefore, the hall was built up to memorize the two girls. Are you dreaming to listen to the ancient bell from a drum? If yes, I am sure the Drum Tower Park is the most desirable place to choose.
