Things to Do
Tianzhu Cliff Temple is located in the Tianzhu Peak which is 1488.4 meters high. The mountain is very high and is shaped like a giant pillar. The entire peak is made up of jagged rocks and stones. It is elegant and magnificent. The rocks and cliffs are shaped like a tower, sword, torch, owl, column etc. The mountain has long since been considered to be one of the best in the regions. It is said that one would not wish to visit any mountains after they have seen the Five Mountains and they would not want to visit Five Mountains once they have seen the Tianzhu Mountain.
It is said that when Li Bai, a famous poet from Tang Dynasty, had passed through Susong in Yangtze River, he spoke loudly when he saw the grand sight of peaks, clouds, clean air and crystal clear water. Another great poet, Bai Juyi, had also once praised the scenery of this area in his poems. He wrote “the majestic pillar reaches out to the moon and the sun and a cave which is thousand feet of thunder blocks.”
Zhu Xi from the Song Dynasty had once commented that “ a giant pillar that soars to the sky grandly lies in the east. People said that the universe is large but I did not believe it until I saw this masterpiece. Another poem written in the praise of this mountain was by Ming Dynasty’s Li Geng, “ a spectacular pillar soaring up to the sky. I have not yet ascended even half of its peak but I’ve already enjoyed its mirage in Peng Lai. There are fog and clouds all around when you walk up the mountain. There are many wonders of this world but nothing beats this pillar.”
