On March 8th, 1976, accompanied by a deafening roar, the peculiar meteorite shower fell on the suburb of Jilin and Yongji County region at 15:00. Its quantity, weight, ranges and technology content is peculiar in the world. Today, the museum in Jiangnan Park exhibit 138 meteorite specimens which is 2616 kg. The biggest among these is 1775 kg which is the biggest meteorite all over the world.
According to measurement, the matrix of Jilin meteorite was originally one of the planets of asteroid cincture between Mars and Jupiter in solar system which is about 4.6 billion years old. About 8 million years ago, it barged against other planets, blow out of the asteroid cincture to drop on the surface of the earth. According to analysis, Jilin meteorite belongs to olivine that is the copper picrite ball meteorite. It is made up of 40 different kinds of minerals which contain 18 elements. When the meteorite show fell down, the blare and seismic waves broke thousands of glazing of residents. Its magnificent scene and huge power is as strong as A-bomb. However, what surprises us is that there is no one hurt in this meteorite shower.
Jilin meteorite--this uninvited guest, not only provide some valuable universe information to us but also add some color to the travel business of Jiangcheng Jilin City which become the peculiar scenery in China.
