Almost all food of Kaili is featured sour flavor. Kaili people are fond of sour food, regardless age and gender. Every family is equipped with a lot of altars used to pickle various kinds of food, such as pickled vegetable, pickled fish and pickled meat. The representative dishes are: Pickled Fish in Kaili Style, Sour Fish Soup with Chili and Pepper and Stewed Congjiang Mini Pig with Sour Sauce.

They always serve delicious food at low price, such as Gaoxi Kuaihuolin Restaurant, located in Gaoxi county; Gaga Beef Stewed with Sour Soup, located at Ximahe (five minutes walking from Kaili Long-distance Bus Station); Restaurant Street, located at Qingping Bei Lu; Beijing Lu Night Market, located at Beijing Lu (usually opened after 20:00pm); and Niuchangba Snack Night Market, located near by Guotai Grand Hotel.
