Kangding Transport
Kangding airport is reputed to be the highest one in Asia, but there are only a few flights to Chengdu, and some other domestic cities. So it would be easier to first take a flight to Chengdu, and then go to Kangding from Chengdu. You can choose to reach Kangding either by bus or hire a vehicle.
There are buses from departing from Chengdu (6 to 9 hours, 127 yuan), Luding (4 hours, 40 yuan), Tagong (4 hours, 40 yuan), and Litang (9 hours, 81 yuan).
It is advised to travel to Kangding during odd days, because the Erlangshan tunnel is only allowed to go through to Kangding during odd days and back to Chengdu during even number days. If you leave for Kangding during even number days, you would have to take a roundabout path through the top of Erlang Mountain, and the road would be quite rugged.
If you hire a vehicle, like a van or a jeep, you can drive through the national road No.318, then pass Chengdu-Ya’an Highway for about 2–3 hours. Ya’an is the “rainy city”, and the road condition would be quite bad, and tourists should be careful. After passing Luding Bridge, you will reach Kangding at last.
