Yilong Pickled Cucumbers enjoys a high reputation among the local products. In the 10th year of emperor Tong Zhi in Qing Dynasty, Yilong County Annals say: pickled cucumbers are well-known for sweetness and crispness. Except one or two shops in Yilong, other counties can’t imitate the same taste. In time of Emperor Jia Qiang in Qing Dynasty, Yilong Pickled Cucumbers became the tribute for the emperors. In the 10th year of the Republic of China (1912-1949), it won a prize for its high quality in the flower exhibition in Chengdu.
And there is a local folk-song which lists the best local products, among those Yilong pickled cucumbers is put in the first place. So it is easy to imagine how popular it is among the local people. Even Zhu De (an important political and military leader in China) was the regular customer of Yilong Pickled Cucumbers every year until he passed away. And visiting guests from abroad also gave high praise to it.
