Yangtze River Bridge is a dual-use bridge that provides a double layer two-lane road and a railroad across the river; it became the first of its kind solely designed and built by China on December 29, 1968. The upper layer is 4589 meters long and 15 meters wide, which makes it possible for 4 vehicles to drive simultaneously; the under layer is 6772 meters long and 14 meters wide allowing two trains to move side by side on the double tracks. Both sides of the top are also equipped with a 2 meter wide sidewalk. 9 piers anchor the bridge to the river below; the highest one is 85-meter high with a base covering about 4oo square meters. The longest span of the bridge reaches up to 160 meters wide. 200 reliefs throughout the banisters help support this massive structure.
Besides the incredible architecture, the bridge also has much aesthetic appeal. There are 150 pairs of lights with the shape of Yunlan flower, 70-meter high bridge towers and a beautiful park under the bridge. It is definitely worth a visit to see the creation that eased passage and life along the Yangtze river. If you have a chance, visit at night.
