General Information

The Xiangshan Film and Television City is one of the top tourist destinations of the Ningbo district in east China. Here, tourists can bask in the view of the Lingyan Mountain, as well as other natural sceneries in the area.

Located 87 miles from Ningbo, the Xiangshan Film and Television City occupies a land space of 1091 square kilometers. It is protected by two-gated walls measuring 400 meters long, 6 meters wide and 10 meters high.

The Xiangshan Film and Television City is known all throughout China as it was named the “Long Triangle Weekend Leisure Travel Hot Scenic Spot” in 2006, “The Provincial Film and TV Production Base” of 2007 and “Ningbo’s Culture Demonstration Base” in 2008.  

Rich History

The Xiangshan Film and Television City was constructed to serve as the backdrop of the movie “A Couple of Chivalrous Swordspersons and their Supernatural Eagles,” an adaptation of the same-named famous model. The city is complete with mansions, streets, squares, ponds, caves and lakes and cost about RMB 120 million to make.

The Xiangshan Film and Television City is said to be inspired by Song Dynasty architecture. Because of its traditional edifices and structures, filmmakers who want to produce movies in the settings of ancient Chinese times will benefit from the Han, Qin, Tang, Qing, Ming and of course, Song dynasty architecture of the city.

A Movie City Indeed

For its beautiful landscapes and backgrounds it was hailed as one of the top 10 film and television bases in China. The citation is but appropriate, as many movies have chosen the Xiangshan Film and Television City as their backdrops.

Other films that have used the Xiangshan Film and Television City as their environments are “The Jinggang Mountain,” “The Boy is Really Cool,” “National Hero Wu Shilai,” “The Boundary of Life and Death, “The Great Qin Dynasty, “The Resister,” “The Four Great Seizers,” “The Wiser,” “The Legend of Li Bing” and “The Happy Marshall, to name a few.”

Reliving the Movie Experience

As it has been said, the Xiangshan Film and Television City served as the backdrop for the movie “A Couple of Chivalrous Swordspersons and their Supernatural Eagles.” If you are a fan of this blockbuster hit, you can relive the experience of the actors and actresses by visiting these areas:

•    Passionless Valley – The main characters of the movie, Xiao Long and Yang Guo, made a vow with each other that they will at the Passionless Valley. They did meet after 16 years, and from then on they lived happily ever after.

•    Mysterious Living Death Grave – According to the book version of movie “A Couple of Chivalrous Swordspersons and their Supernatural Eagles,” the Mysterious Living Death Grave is the most enigmatic place in Chongyang Palace. Wang Chongyang honed his fighting skills in this location.

What to do

Tourists should visit the main stem of the film city, which spans 120 meters long. Here, visitors can commune with retailers and sellers nestled in Song Dynasty-inspired structures. Tourists will enjoy the jousting competition that is usually held in the main stem, as they sip tea, beer or any other beverage of their choice.

How to Get There?

Take the Xiangshan-bound bus at the Ningbo terminal station. Alight at the Xinqiao bus station and take a coach headed to the Xiangshan Film and Television City from there.
