The long history has given Guyuan a distinctive charm which attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from home and abroad. Being a vital caravan town along the Ancient Silk Road, Guyuan was a town of great military importance. Seven dynasties had set it up as a county. It is the place that integrates the nomadic culture of north China with farming culture of central China. For this reason, there are more than 10,000 pieces of precious cultural relics in the Guyuan Museum. For example, the unearthed coffin paintings in the Tombs of the Northern Wei dynasty ( 386-534 AD) are quite rarely seen in China, and silver gold gilded pots of the Northern Zhou dynasty ( 557-581 AD) are unique in the world.
A thousand year have passed, yet the marks of the Ancient Silk Road and the great much-told stories and legends are left. Many attractions such as the Qin Dynasty Great Wall, wandering for about a hundred miles, is still left with great magnificence. Liupanshan Mountain is both a military strategic place and a great summer resort. Jinyuan scenic area originates in the hinterland of Liupanshan Mountain, and is listed as an important national natural reserve. What's more, there are more than 30 grottoes in Xumishan Mountain, all of which are the mirror of the ancient art of stone carvings and the witness of the cultural exchanges of China with foreign nations.
