Pingxiang Overview

Under its jurisdiction, Pingxiang has three counties (Shangli County, Luxi County, Lianhua County), two districts (An’yuan District, Xiangdong District), and An’yuan Economic Development Zone of the provincial level. Its downtown occupies 35 sq km.

Inside the City of Pingxiang

Pingxiang was once a passageway from Wu State to Chu State in Spring and Autumn Period. Now it’s a bright pearl in the west of Jiangxi Province. After the opening policy was carried out, the economy of Pingxiang City has a rapid development. It becomes a clean and beautiful city and it is fully equipped with tourist service facilities. Apart from both a scenic spot and a revolutionary memorial place, there are many other historic & cultural relics such as Confucius Temple, Yangqi Temple, Henglong Temple, the years-old yew podocarpus in Jinshan Temple. Both Mingyue Lake Villa and Tiantang Lake Resort are good places for tourists, which are brimmed with boundless blue water. Pingshui River and Binghe River from east to west converge in the city proper, which form beautiful scenery attractive to tourists. Both Luyin Square and Autumn-Harvest-Uprising Square of 334 acres are good places for relaxation and entertainment and also bright windows to the outside world. In the center of the Autumn-Harvest-Uprising Square, there are colorful musical springs with 68 meters of diameter, water-screen film and high-standard street lamps creating a charming city night.

Pingxiang Attractions

Pingxiang City has a beautiful landscape and plenty of tourist resources. There are two cultural & historic relics under state protection and 67 provincial-level and city-level key units of historic relics for preservation. The famous Wugongshan Scenic Spot has its unique characteristics of magnificence, oddity, precipice and elegance. Its main peak is the highest peak in Jiangxi Province, as high as 1,918.24 meters. In addition, there are tens of thousands of acres of grassy marshlands on the highland rarely seen in the south of China, primitive second growth and the first-lass and second-class rare animals and plants enjoying special protection of the state. Chanzong Buddhist culture in Yangqishan area is very influential at home and abroad with a large number of Buddhists in both Japan and South Korea. Yangqishan area is full of cultures and customs, including temples built in Tang Dynasty, the stone tablet with Han Yu’s carving, and Wenting-style tomb. On the ground there are many limestone caves, among which Yilong Cave has been open to the outside world. The Nuo culture of Pingxiang area has been well preserved, which is seldom seen in China.
