Menglian Golden Tower is located in Menglian County of Pu’er City in Yunnan Province on the Nanlei River. The main tower, which is surrounded by eight small towers, has an altitude of 31.8 meters. There is a wind bell hanging on every tower. When a breeze blows, the bells ring a joyous peal, which is regarded as the sound from heaven by the Dai people, give people an experience of the different culture of the land of Buddha.

Menglian Golden Tower is also an emblem of equality, unity and progress followed by people of all ethnic groups in Menglian. The Golden Tower was completed in April, 1997. Among all the ancillary buildings of Menglian Golden Tower, the most important ones are four square pavilions that surround the foundation of the tower. Square pavilion means “directing the way and showing a labyrinth for people” in the Dai language. The four square pavilions stand in different directions from east, south, west and north. In every direction, there is a god that protects local people from disease and disaster.
