Gelmu City is on the lakefront of the Gelmu Lake in the south-central part of Qaidam basin. As an industrial and transport city firstly constructed in the 50’s, the city is of a distinguished style in that it was built on the gobi desert. Located in the south-central part of Qaidam basin which is called "the golden treasure" and in the heart of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau entitled the "third pole" paralleling with the South Pole and the North Pole in the world, it is an oasis with the snow thaw from the Kunlun Mountain.
