The majestic and lofty A’nimaqing Peak, also called Maji Snow Mountain or Maqinggangri, lying 6282 meters above the sea level, is composed of sandstones, limestone and granite, consisting of 13 peaks with the average sea level over 5900 meters, among which the highest peak is called “Maqinbaobula” in the shape of indentations overlapping. Owing to the lofty and precipitous topography the weather is changeable, moreover, the icy mountains are standing magnificently and loftily, and 57 glaciers cover an area of 126 square kilometers, among which Halong Glacier, lying in the northeast, covering an area of 24 square kilometers and the highest vertical distance up to 1800 meters, is the largest and longest glacier in Huanghe Drainage Basin.

The glaciers, bearing various postures and glittering with translucent and bright ice, compose of a bizarre icy world. Frigid-temperate zone coniferous forest such as tall and verdant spruces and Sabina chinensis spread on the sea level of 3600-3800meters; and on the 3800-4000 sea- level the mountain is covered by alpine scrub consisting of golden-deer plum trees, Pentaclethra macrophylla and azaleas; alpine ranches are on the open region near the snow-line.

Wild animals such as white-lipped deer, snow leopard and snow cock and so on inhabit in the forest. A’nimaqing Snow Mountain enjoys not only charming and gentle natural scenic view but also enchanting legends, which make the mountain clouded by a kind of mystery. A’ni means the ancestral graybeard in Tibetan or kind-heartedness, happiness and profundity; while Maqing suggests the largest mountain at the source of Yellow River or magnificence and grandeur.

A’nimaqing Snow Mountain is regarded by the local Tibetan nationality as one of the 12 holy snow mountains in “Bolawajiangong”, as Sibaqioabeilage the forth god among the 9 gods who created the world, as the powerful and omnipotent Mountain God who dominates mountains, rivers and lands. A’nmaqing is the pilgrimage resort for its holy invincible might because Tibetan people are loyal believers in gods. Every year of Sheep or the year between Shen Door and Snow Door pilgrims carry simple luggage, cookers and food.

They only fulfill the pious will of bowing, destroying sinners and soul rising by circling around the mountain, trekking, walking in the wild with strong will, during which they spend 7 or 8 days in walking, overcoming hardships and cannot hold up till the end without strong strength and mind. They will encounter a lot of fantastic natural phenomena on the pilgrimage, such as, bizarre molding landform, outlandish and jagged stones, and fickle meteorology, the gurgling sound of the creek, waterfalls as if the Milk Way falling down and various wild animals and so on, all which seem to be presents by gods; thus A’nimaqing Peak is a dreamlike world.

Edition HistoryEdit How to get there:

The A’nimaqing Mountain—climbing base camp is about 85 kilometers away from the capital of Guoluo Prefecture, Dawu Town. The road to the camp is extremely muddy in rainy season, with lofty mountains and dangerous traffic, so the car must behave well on the off- road. At the Maqin County Bus Station you can take the bus to Snow Mountain Town, where rented cars are available to the attraction.
