Local people call Shennv Peak in the Guolluo Grassland “jiamaoduo”. “Jiamao” means Han gilrs, while “duo” means stones in colloquial Tibetan language. Jiamaoduo is situated in the shadowy grass mountain, about 10 li off the east of Gande County, Guoluo Zang Nationality Autonomous Prefecture, with two huge stones higher than the height of a bungalow. The short stone in a far distance looks like a person bends down ready to cry or shout, and the high one is raising his eyes and staring eagerly at the Maji Snowy Mountain ahead. The postures and attitudes of the stones blend perfectly with unimpeded sweep of snowy mountains, clear and empty grassland and meandering rivers, which make people feel loneliness and uneasiness.
Many tourists are attracted by omniform and enchanting characteristics of Shennv Mountain. Shenv Peak has been being famous for thousands of years for the love story of Emperor Xian g and Shennv in Liu Yu’s “shennv poem”, the legend of Shennv Yaoji descending to the world to help Emperor Yu control water and a stone looking like a girl standing beside the side peak. Poets or the men of letters in every dynasty left plenty of poetry to praise the peak. Legend has said that Shennv Peak is the incarnation of the youngest daughter of West Queen (the wife of Emperor Yuhuang in Chinese legends), Yaoji, who helped Emperor Yu control water and then left on Guoluo Grassland to protect people in the grassland. Therefore, Yaoji is respected and worshiped by the descendents.
