Xining is an important gateway in the south route of Silk Road, commonly called “an entrance to Qinghai-Tibet Plateau” and “a key to Xihai”. Communication here has been convenient and fast since ancient times. Xining, as the capital of Qinghai Province, is the key transport conjunction of Qinghai Province. There is an airport, a railway station and bus stations in Xining; Xining has formed an assorted transport network of air, railway and bus, which has laid a transport foundation for going sightseeing.
Xining Airport, in Huizhu County, is the only second-grade airport in Qinghai Province and is an important air traffic junction in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is 29 kilometers from Xining Airport to the center of Xining; the price of airport bus is 8 yuan; if you take a Xiali-branched taxi, it will cost you about 50 yuan. There are fights from Xining to Beijing and Xi’an every day among domestic airlines; the rest of the flights are from Xining to Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqin, Dunhuang, Geermu, Guangzhou, Kunming, Lhasa, Shenzhen, Wulumuqi, etc, but these fights don’t all have every day. Before departure, you had better inquiry the airline companies. Almost all travel agencies and hotels can help book tickets.

The communication network of Xining railway can lead everywhere. Lanqin Railway and Qingzang Railway cross Qinghai Province through Xining, connecting Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Xi’an, Lanzhou, Geermu and Eurasia Land Bridge, which is good for foreign trade. Xining is the transport junction of Lanqing Railway and Qingzang Railway. In Xining Railway Station, Lanqing Railway helps you go east; there is Qingzang Railway to take you west; and Ningda Railway goes north. There are also some branch lines to Datong, Caidamu, Chaka, etc.
There are tens of main highways in Qinghai Province, such as, Ganqing, Qingzang, Ningzhang, Ningling, Ningguo, etc. These highways take Xining as the center and expand to different directions. Besides, there are over 100 highways and roads to connect different cities and counties inside and outside of Qinghai Province. Xining Long-distance Bus Station controls almost all the long-distance buses through Qingzang Highway, Qingxin Highway and Qingshuan Highway which are the main highways connecting inside and outside of Qinghai Province. There are also the routes to the suburb of Xining, such as, to Taer Temple of Huangzhong, Laoye Mountain scenic spot, etc.
