Has anyone visited Luoyang or Kaifeng can help me to make a choice?

I shall be visiting Xian in the summer and has time to visit another nearby city. I am considering either Luoyang or Kaifeng. Has anyone visited both cities and can help me to make a choice? Many thanks.

- The caves outside Luoyang are fantastic but the city itself is a little grim. Kaifeng has a wonderful night market and is a lovely town to wander. I like Kaifeng anyway.
