By train or by air?

I wish to travel Beijing to Shanghai and then Shanghai to Hongkong. I wish to take this opportunity to see the land of china by train. But is it wise to travel by air? What are the rates comparisons?

- Why not do both? Some trains will only take 5.5 hours to get BJ to Shanghai. From Shanghai to Shenzhen (near Hong Kong) is about 18 hours. I would take the train to BJ-Shanghai and then fly to Hong Kong. That way you get the best of both worlds.

- Normally train is the cheapest. This web site offer good opportunity for train tikets. Like 87 usd for beijing shanghai, and 32 for shanghai gouanzou.
