- Just make sure you have an unlocked GSM cell phone. Major GSM operators in USA: T-Mobile, AT&T. If your cell phone is locked to one of these providers, you can unlock them after your contract is over. Just call and ask. For China, buy a SIM card right there or beforehand online (Pandaphone, etc).

- Sure! You can use your own phone in China. But you may need to buy a new SIM card and get the new number, as the telephone fare will be much cheaper than that of your original SIM card. I think renting a new phone is also a good idea!
