Where to find the traditional Chinese life?

I am tired of the tourist traps in bigger cities and want to experience real, traditional chinese life. Where should I go? i am currently working in Beijing.

- China is a country steeped in complex and distinctive culture. Some of the visitors here, however, lament the presence of the booming skyscrapers and eight-lane high way in big cities. Yet traditional Chinese life is presented in many places. When travel china, Hutong in Beijing, or the small water village of Qingpu near Shanghai will deliver you vivid traditional Chinese lifestyle. Anyway, if time permitted, you can have a trip to the remote western areas. Dali, lijiang in Yunnan province and Tibet where the age-old tradition is well preserved can be your best choice.
