- Foreign tourists can only re-exchange money that they originally brought into China. When you first arrive and exchange currency, you will be given a receipt of your exchange. This receipt is VERY important because you are only allowed to re-exchange the exact amount that you first exchanged upon arrive. So make sure to keep it, because you will be asked to produce it when you exchange Chinese yuan for foreign currency. You are welcome to bring Chinese currency home with you, but be warned that it cannot be exchanged for foreign currency outside of China. For instance, you cannot carry Chinese yuan with you on the plane and expect to change it at Los Angeles Airport. So, make sure to re-exchange any Chinese currency before you leave China! Megan
