- China is regarded as a safe place to travel for both men and women, however female travelers are sometimes more likely to encounter harassment, but uncomfortable situations can often be avoided by taking the following precautions. Dress conservatively. Although short skirts and tank tops may be comfortable, they may also encourage unwanted attention. Avoid walking alone late at night or in questionable neighborhoods. Do not agree to meet a person whom you do not know in a secluded place. Be aware that some men tend to mistake the friendliness of foreign women for romantic interest. Be wise and it is unlikely that you will experience any difficulty.

- In my opinion, China is perfectly safe. I am a 22-years old woman living in China and I've never felt unsafe not even once, even if I live in a very poor district, am a european girl and always wear skirts. I've never even been insulted, though it happens to me almost everyday in my home country. I have travelled through China alone many times, and I never felt unsafe, not even once. Generally speaking, Chinese people strongly believe in men/women equality, and you would never hear any sexist reflection in China... even been touched by a man is extremely rare (in fact it happened to me only once, but that guy was Iranian, not Chinese). To what I heard, the only part of China which is not so safe for women is Xinjiang province, but what I heard is just that people can insult you or glance at you disapprovingly...

- I think China is definately a safe place for female travelers. I've travelled to China solo twice now and have never had any problems. Don't let that fact that you're a woman deter you from your travels. China is a beautiful and very safe country- so enjoy it. Take any precautions as you would in any country, eg. don't walk into bars alone, learn some of the local langauge so you know how to talk to people, etc.

- It depends what is your term safe. If you walk alone with sexy clothes, of course you will invite bad companies. If I am a lady, I certainly will not risk myself walking in the middle of the night alone in alleys or not people places.

- It is relatively safe in big cities. You can call the tourist police and they respond quite quickly.

- Completely safe! But that doesn't mean you need to push the limits and go walking through alleys alone at midnight.

- I think, it's safe for women to travel alone if you are in big cities. But you should be careful in province. Think, it'll be better to find a companion. And always tell to hostel staff, where are you going and the time of return.

- safe keeping your belongings because there are pocket pickers in public locations. especially when you are a person with different skin color. China is a safe country, but as it is the case in every other country there will be criminals. even in the us, I always safe keep my valuables in the hotel safe.

- Do not bring too much money, do not go out in the mid night, be aware in the crowds such as public transport, shopping malls, don't go to the small lane, otherwise it is very safe in China. What's more, always remember to call 110 when you are in danger.
