Outline
Yan Emperor, born in Mengyu Valley, Tiantai Mountain, Baoji, was also called Shennong, the god who invented farming in the mythology of ancient China. He taught people how to cultivate crops and to establish markets for trading. Besides, he was also considered as the god of Chinese medicine. In commemoration of him, a memorial temple and the Yan Emperor Mausoleum were built in his hometown, a place where he grew up, created his career and was buried. In addition to that, a Yan Emperor Garden was constructed in the down. All of those offered a place to honor Yan Emperor.
Scenic spots
Yan Emperor Mausoleum is composed of three sections: the front mausoleum, the commemorative district and the cemetery. These places are imposing, sacred, solemn and quiet. It is a holy Place for the descendants of the Chinese people to pay homage to their ancestor.
There is an ancient style memorial archway in the area before the mausoleum with the words: Hometown of Yan Emperor on it.
The commemorative district lies on the Changyang Mountain, about 5 kilometers away from the downtown. After the first gateway, there is a flight of stone steps leading to the tomb, in front of which there are a memorial archway and a gateway. A stone scripture was placed before the gateway with the inscriptions: Changyang Mountain on it. A Holy Mother Palace and a Shennong Pavilion were built in this section as well.
To the south of the commemorative palace, a path with 999 steps leads to the top of the Yangchang Mountain where Yan Emperor was buried. The round tomb is walled with stone. In front of the tomb stands a gravestone with inscriptions Yan Emperor Mausoleum on it. Set off by towering old trees, the mausoleum seems all the more stately and splendid, with the golden roofs flashing brilliantly in the sun and the purple walls occasionally emerging from behind the lush trees.
