The International Marathon at Xian City Wall, which began to be held in the year 1993, is held on the first Sunday of November annually. These years, the festival plays an influential part at home and abroad. In the year 2003, the International Marathon at Xian City Wall was celebrated as “National Sports and Tourism Gold Medal Events” by State Physical Culture Administration and National Tourism Administration. The International Marathon at Xian City Wall is the only marathon competition held on the ancient city wall in the world and it’s also the most influential sports event in Xian.

There are thousands of participants from over 40 countries, such as America, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and India. During the festival, there will be 5-kilometer marathon for women, 10-kilometer marathon for men and half marathon. It is said that running on the great city wall which is the most well-preserved is an exciting experience.
