The Swan Lake Scenic Area

The Swan Lake is the largest artificial lake in the North China Plain and the only “AAA” tourist spot in Dongying. There are four islands in the lake and they are well-known for being the home to numerous water fowls. Each year, large numbers of swans come to the lake in November and stay there till April of the next year (hence the name of the lake), there are in the lake various kinds of fishes, including Yellow River Carp, Crucian carp and cat fish, among others. The scenic area is furnished with accommodation and convention facilities and offers a variety of entertainment programs. Visitors can go fishing, watch birds, take a motor-boat to cruise the lake or simply relax in the newly built hot spring bathhouse.

Both the Dongying Public Transportation Co. and the Shengli Oilfield Tours Co. offer regular tour bus service to and from the Swan Lake Scenic Area, the Public Transportation Co. bus leaves for the scenic spot at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 AM and returns to the city at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00 PM, while the Shengli Oilfield Tour bus leaves at 8:20 AM and returns at 15:00 PM.

(1) There in the scenic area a 2-star Swan Lake Resort Hotel with a 103 beds, and rate for standard room is 240 RMB per night. Visitors can dine in the restaurant of the Resort or the Sun Island Restaurant, whose featured dishes are fresh fish from the lake and a variety of edible wild herbs. (2) Visitors are forbidden to make noises in the living quarters of the swans and other water fowls or to chase, disturb, or hurt them. （３）Best time for tourists: November-April each year.
