The colossal Yellow River Monument, also known as The Age-pass, was finished and opened to visitors in June 1995. The Monument, which is 790 meters long, 2.5 meters tall and 0.9 meters wide, is made up of 1,093 toughened glass containers each holding water samples taken at 1,093 different places along the 5,464-kilometer-long main course of the Yellow River. Each of the containers bears an introduction of the place (in Chinese, English, and French) where the water sample was taken. This monument is an epical embodiment of the Mother River, the spirit of the Chinese nation and her perseverant strive for progress.
