Weifang Kite, Weifang

It is a glittering pearl of Weifang folk culture. Weifang was elected as “the Kite Capital City of the World” during the fifth Weifang International Kite Conference in 1988.When International Kite United Organization was founded formally in 1989, the general headquarters were set up in Weifang. So it established the status and popularity of the Weifang kite, which is the messenger of expanding international economic and cultural interaction and promoting the friendship of people of other countries. It becomes one of the four major kite production bases of China with distinct artistic characteristics during the long development process. The Weifang kite reflects typical local features such as subject matter, model, painting, etc. Because of historical reasons, the coloring of the Weifang kite characterized by outstanding local features can be classified into two types. One is simple and elegant, typical of the style of paintings by men of letters. It is a school of kite painting since modern time. This type of kite with unique characteristic in drawing and extremely high ornamental value earns many prizes for Weifang in the kite competition many times.
