Changyu Wine culture Museum, located at the formal site of Chongyu Wine Company in Yantai City, showcases the history. The museum contains two parts: a display area and an underground wine cellar. The display area shows the development and changes Changyu Wine Company has undergone during the past century, through pictures, videos.
The underground cellar 7 meters in depth was the first underground wine cellar in Asia when it was completed in 1903.
While it opens to tourists, the cellar now is still in use for wine storage and aging. Eight arch-shaped caves in the cellar house over 600 buckets. The oldest buckets in No seven cave have a history of over 100 years ago, and were made of ready plunks imported from Europe. There are three 15-ton huge buckets, which measures 2.6 meter in diameter and 3.1 meters in width. There is a simply designed but elegantly decorated bar inside the No five cave, where travelers can taste a wide variety of wine produced by Changyu in a romantic environment brought by old melodies and dim lights.
The cellar keeps at a constant temperature of 53.6 F to 64.4 F, which is the most suitable temperature for wine aging.
