Shanghai Underground Cultural Plaza Theater, the world’s largest and deepest theatre, will be opened to public in July, 2011. It covers an area of 650,000 square meters, among which 570,000 square meters are underground. Besides, the underground theatre has the largest number of seats.

The construction of Shanghai Underground Cultural Plaza Theater lasts for 4 years and it’s one of the top 3 performance venues of Shanghai, together with Shanghai Grand Theatre and Shanghai Concert Hall. According to the report, the first performance of Shanghai Underground Cultural Plaza Theater will be mainly a vocal concert of a large collection of musical plays, such as the musical play ‘Elizabeth’ in German. According to the president of the theater, the underground theater will not only be the main performance venues of foreign original musical plays, but also the platform of national original musical plays and the research base for musical plays.
