The temple was said  built by Sunquan, king of the of East Wu State of the Three Kingdoms period for his mother. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty changed the temple name to  "QingChiYangDian" which means a temple granted by his majesty.  The emperor also ordered a rebuilding of the temple during his. The temple has more than ten halls such as the Dongyue, Sanqing, CHenghuang and Guangdi halls etc, in which house more than 600 statue of gods. Every March, April, July and September of the lunar calendar, the pilgrims will come in flocks to worship the god.

There is a "lotus boat meeting" on March 28 of lunar calendar, which is the birthday of Dongyue God. The event attracts a large number of pilgrims each year.
