Shanghai Square Tower

Square Tower has a history of over 900 years. It was built during the Song dynasty (1068 A.D.-1094A.D.) This square tower was built of wood and brick. It is 48.5 meters high with 9 storeys of square shape. In accordance to the architecture style of Tang dynasty, most part of structure are well kept as their original form.

Standing close by the Square Tower  is the Screen Wall built in the Ming Dynasty as well. The Sreen Wall is 4.75 meters in height, 6.1 meters in width and 3 meters in thickness. On the surface carved  a huge monster with horns of a deer, the tail of a lion, the hoofs of an ox, and the scales of a dragon. A legend says that this monster got drowned in the sea in an attempt to swallow the sun on the sea.
