Live Bar is the main Chinese underground music venue in Shanghai. Located in an old factory building far up in the northern Yangpu District, Live Bar is the hub of Shanghais punk and rock scene, and every week there are a bunch of concerts with bands both from Shanghai and surrounding areas as well as from Beijing. It also organises occational underground festivals. The crowds are mainly there for the music (they tend to drop off once the band stops playing) although there also are DJ:s playing until late. The club consists of only one room with a large stage in the front and a small bar in the back, offering probably the cheapest beer of any bar in Shanghai. This is a good down-to-earth place to visit when you grow tired of the posh and chic downtown, or when you are craving for some punk, metal or folk rock.
