Lishan, also called Shunwang Ping (piece of land of Monarch Shun), for it is said that Monarch Shun have grown plants here. The peak is 2322 meters high.
Lishan Natural Reserve is rich in wild animals and vegetation. There grow many precious subtropical trees and protected animals including the Macaque, Golden eagle, Musk deer and Giant salamander etc, and the only vast area of virgin forest in north China. There are hundreds of scenic spots and historic and cultural relics.
The virgin forest, a picturesque ecosystem consists of steep peaks, craggy stones, green mountains, flourishing grass and silver springs, is the largest one in north China. Here you can find the craggy peaks, exquisite stones, silent valleys, unique caves and ice screens that is known as the ‘Five marvelous views’ and the ‘Ten attractions’ contains billowy trees, cool air, snow and ice, misty rain, mirage shadows, cultural relics, rare animals, rare plants, herbs and villages. The whole area is divided into seven parts, more than 100 scenic spots.
The central of the area is Xiachuan cultural site, which represents the Paleolithic (the second part of the Stone Age) culture. Shunwang ping which is also in the area is the land that is said to have been cultivated by Monarch Shun.
The main scenic spots here are Shunwangping, Shunwang Temple, Yi Xian tian (Wire like Sky), Xiachuan cultural site, Baiyun Cave, Tangwang Temple and Shentian Temple. It is not far between those scenic spots and cultural relics.
