Shuangyashan Overview

Shuangyashan City is a prefecture-level city of Heilongjiang Province. It’s located in the northeast of Heilongjiang and adjoins Kiamusze and Qitaihe to the west. Shuangyashan is a landscape garden city with the longest history in Heilongjiang Province. It also has the largest area of original ecological wetland in China. Shuangyashan City boasts profuse tourism resources including the national famous scenic spots.

At present, there are 181 historical and cultural relics in downtown area, 214 cultural relics in Jixian County, 318 cultural relics in Baoqing County, 146 cultural relics in Youyi County and 207 cultural relics in Raohe County. There are 2 national key cultural relic protection units in Shuangyashan City, which include Yanwodao town site of the Sui Dynasty and Three River Plain site of the Han and Wei dynasties.

Shuangyashan City boasts abundant biological and tourism resources, including towering ancient trees, scenic Beixiu Park, Donghu Park and Qingshan Scenic Area. It’s heavily forested with the forestry area of 8,632 square kilometers and the forest coverage of 38.4%. There are quite lots of wild animals on the mountains, such as wild boars, roe deer, bears and deer. Besides, Shuangyashan City abounds with fishes of a variety in history, including carp, whitefish, snakehead, loaches and red-belly crucian carp. On the Naoli river basin, wetlands covering the area of 170 thousand hectares are formed, which are the most representative and primitive wetlands of the Three River Plain and have been listed as the national-level natural reserve.


Shuangyashan is located in the mid and high latitude, enjoying temperate continental monsoon climate. It features long, dry and cold winter and short, hot and rainy summer. The effective accumulated temperature and rainfall concentrate in summer. The annual average temperature is 4.5℃. The highest temperature is 37℃ that occurs in late June, and the lowest temperature is -27℃ that occurs in January.

Qingshan National Forest Park

Located in Lingdong District of Shuangyashan City, 9 kilometers from southeast of the municipal government, Qingshan National Forest Park covers a total area of 38.99 square kilometers and the forest area of 31.78 square kilometers, with the forest coverage of 82%. It’s the national 3A-rated mountain-type natural scenery tourist area that abounds with rich plant and animal resources.

Qixinghe Wetland National Nature Reserve

Dongsheng Wetland National Forest Park

It’s a typical inland wetland ecological system covering an area of about 16,169 hectares. In the park, there is an abundance of wildlife, which includes 406 species of higher plants, 221 species of animals and 143 species of birds. In the park, the national second-level protected plants include wild soybeans, lotus and Myriophyllum ussuriense. There are 25 species of national protected animals and 23 species of birds under national key protection, such as golden eagles, red-crowned cranes and oriental white storks.

Located at the backland of the Three River Plain of Heilongjiang Province, 40 kilometers from north of Baoqing County, Qixinghe Wetland National Nature Reserve is the inland wetland and water ecosystem type in North China, covering an area of 20,000 hectares.

Yanwodao Natural Reserve

It’s a provincial-level natural reserve of inland, water area and wetland ecosystem type, covering an area of 15,582 hectares.

Zhenbao Island

It’s located on the Chinese side of the central line of the main channel of Wusuli River which is the branch of Amur River, belonging to Raohe County of Shuangyashan City. The island covers an area of 0.74 square kilometers. On the island, there are corridors, bridges and markets. Zhenbao Island has become a popular tourist attraction and venue for folk trades between China and Russia.

Best Time to Visit

The best period to visit Shuangyashan is summer and autumn when it’s relatively warm and moist. During this period, the magnificent and beautiful Lishugou Forest Park and Qingshan National Forest Park boast a wild profusion of vegetation, which is very suitable for exploration and taking a photograph. Besides, the Anbanghe Wetland Park enjoys lush aquatic plants and dense ditch reeds, which attracts a large number of rare and precious birds.
