The Pang Tong Temple

Pang Tong, nicknamed "Blooming Phoenix", was a native of Xian gyang (nowadays' Xiangfan, Hubei Province). He was born in the first year of Guanghe, reined by the Emperor Lin in the Eastern Han Dynasty (178AD). At that time, Pang Tong was on a par with Zhuge Liang (the most famous strategist in Chinese History who lived in the Three Kindoms Period).

Zhuge Liang was known as the Sleeping Dragon while Pang Tong, the Young Phoenix. At the summer of the 18^th year of Jiannan (214AD), after having surrounded and attacked the Luo county (nowadays' Guanghan city) several months, Pang Tong led his troops to attack the city and died from a stray arrow at the age of thirty-six. Liu Bei (Pang's master, also the emperor of the kingdom of Shu) was in deep sorrow and had Pang Tong buried on Lutou Hill.

The present Pangtong Temple was built in the 46^th year (1782) of Kangxi, Qing Dynasty. There are many tall, green, and old cypresses around the tomb. Besides the tomb, there is an ancient post road with deep trace and mosses and a commanding table used by Zhuge Zhan, the eldest son of Zhuge Liang, to command the battle with Deng Ai, the general of the Wei army. The Pang Tong Temple is a good place for traveling, cherishing the good memory of the past, and entertaining on holidays.
