From the Jin, Yuan dynasties to the Republic of China era is another important stage in Mianzhu’s liquor brewage history. During this period, liquor brewage crafts were improved and the liquor industry developed greatly too. Thus, the second milestone of Mianzhu Daqu in Mianzhu’s liquor brewage history appeared. It is also called “Qinglu Daqu”. Lu You, one of the famous poets in Song Dynasty, wrote in A Letter to the Sea that Mianzhu pure drew could relieve the hot in summer and the cold in winter, stop vomiting and diarrhea, and decrease moisture and miasma. The fine quality of Mianzhu Daqu is due to its excellent natural environment. The climate in Mianzhu is subtropical with an annual average temperature of 15.7centigrade, and an annual average rainfall of 1097.7mm. The percentage of organic matter of the soil is high, with 68.07% low-grade acid soil in it. Such kind of climate and quality of soil is suitable for brewing liquors. Meanwhile, new liquor brewage crafts of Mianzhu Daqu have been created in collecting “Qu” (yeast for brewing), using materials and water, blending, etc. In addition, the water used for brewing liquors comes from Jade Princess Spring who’s pure and clean water has low percentage of Na and high percentage of Sr. For these reasons, the quality of Mianzhu Daqu is superb. To the periods of Kangxi, Qing Dynasty, Mianzhu Daqu has formed a unique brewage crafts with lasting flavor, pure white color. Li Tiaoyuan, one of the members of the Imperial Academy of Qing Dynasty, who had traveled almost half of China and drank every kind of famous wine, loved Mianzhu Daqu in particular. With the development of small liquor brewage factories, the liquor industry became prosperous with Zhu family, Bai family and Zhao family being in large scale. The fine quality and delicious flavor of Mianzhu Daqu brings about its prosperity and develops its selling and other trades related to it. In the years of Kangxi, a forest of liquor shops came into existence in Mianzhu. Many merchants from Shanxi, Gansu, Yunnan and Sichuan provinces as well as such ethnic regions as Songfan, Maowen, etc, came to Mianzhu to enjoy drinking. So, Mianzhu was praised as “small Chengdu ” at that time. Entering into 20th century, Mianzhu liquor industry opens a new page of hustle and bustle. Inside the city, you can see restaurants, liquor shops, liquor stands everywhere, from streets to lanes; while outside the city, liquor flags are flying in the sky from villages to roads nearby and from docks to small shops. It is Mianzhu that has the name of “Home of Liquor”. In the 1930s, Mianzhu Daqu was regarded as No.1 among the liquors produced in western part of Sichuan. Rorty fragrance of Mianzhu Daqu is flowing everywhere throughout the western Sichuan plain.
