Located in the north of Sichuan basin, Guangyuan lies at a place where Jialingjiang River, Bailongjiang River and Nan River meet. This is the juncture of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. Boasting well-developed roads, railroads and shipping facilities, it is a hub of communication in northern Sichuan, and also distribution center and trade center for adjacent areas. Guangyuan used to be a Soviet revolutionary base in Sichuan and Shaanxi areas, for long with the high reputation of strategic pass both into and out of Sichuan and gateway of northern Sichuan.
