With picturesque sceneries, it is close to mountains and water, reputed as a superexcellent spot of Qingyi. The stone carvings here show the superior artistic level of stone sculpture in ancient China. Jiajiang Thousand Buddha Rock Cliffside Statues was chiseled during the flouring period of the Tang Dynasty when Buddism was in full flourish.

It was slightly earlier than the Leshan Great Buddha. Different from the Leshan Great Buddha, the Thousand Buddha Rock Cliffside Statues was carved spontaneously by the folk. Hence, it has more abundant and varied content and more colorful artistic image. The Daguan Mountain stands facing the Yifeng Hillock with the Qingyi River winding through in between, which forms the charming and gentle landscape of "two mountains stand facing each other and a river flows between them. On the left bank of the Qingyi River, the stone wall is lined with more than 2400 carved stone Buddhist statues in more than 200 caves. Therefore, it was called "Thousand Buddha Cliff".

The chiseling of statues began in the Sui Dynasty, flourished in the Tang Dynasty and extended to the Ming and Qing Dynasty. The statues are arranged in picturesque disorder. One cave may either be occupied by one statue or holds hundreds of statues. The large statues may exceed one zhang (unit of length) and smaller ones may be less than one chi (unit of length). They have graceful designs, masterful workmanship, varied postures and gorgeous colors, which show the superior artistic level of stone sculpture in ancient China. The best among them is the "pure land salvation (Jingtudu)".
