Lingquan Temple, built in the year of Kaihuang, the emperor of Suiwen in reign (in 581 to 600), called Shengfo Temple, got the name, when it was rebuilt in the 3rd year of Hongzhi, the emperor Xiaozong of Ming Dynasty. It is recorded in Yudi Jisheng that in the year of Kaihuang, the emperor of Suiwen in reign, when the fog spread out on the 4th day after 3 days’ thick fog, suddenly the statue of Buddha erupted there, thus, the temple was built, named Shengfo Temple. It was granted as Zisheng Temple by the emperor Zhenzong of Northern Dynasty and renamed as Lingquan Temple after being rebuilt in the 3rd year of Hongzhi, the emperor Xiaozong of Ming Dynasty. During the peak period of Sui, Tang, Song, and Ming Dynasties it prospered that worshippers from south—west provinces were endless, and it was hailed as saint place of Lingquan, or saint place of west, nearly as famous as Putuo Mountain in Nanhai, listed on the Dictionary of Places of Interest of China. Being the activity center of Buddhism in Chuanzhong and tourist attraction, all the followers of Buddha from all directions get together in full blast every February 19th, June 19th, and September 19th in lunar calendar on which are respectively the birthday, nun-being day and being immortal day of the Goddess of Mercy.
