Katong Food Block, Singapore
Katong Food Block is situated in the eastern part of Singapore. It covers the area from Tanjong Katong Road to the Eastern Coast Road. This area used to be the residential neighborhood of many Chinese people, so most houses here are two-story buildings, which was the style of housing before World War II. This kind of house is also a distinguishing feature of Southeast Asian culture. In Katong Food Block, people can find various kinds of delicious local food. Not to be missed in this food block is the traditional Katong curry laksa. Every day, thousands of guests visit the area, attracted by the Katong curry laksa. Also worth tasting are the breads and cakes made in the old-style Katong bake houses, Hainanese chicken rice, Nonya cakes, Ampang stuffed bean curd with mashed pork and shrimp, tou kwa pau duck rice, Katong pork rice tamales, and so on.
