Siping Overview

Siping City is the third largest city of Jilin Province, which used to the place of strategic importance of Northeast China in history. Located in the hinterland of Songliao Plain, Siping is the south gate of Jilin Province.

As a time-honored city, Siping has collected a number of cultural and historical sites as well as lively and touching folklores. Besides, its elegant natural landscape is just like an artificial garden, and the forest coverage is about 43.9%. Siping boasts peculiar volcanic landform resources. Yitong volcanic group located in Yitong Manchu autonomous county is the only modern volcanic material treasure house in China, consisting of 16 spectacular and precipitous volcanoes, which is the rare volcanic geology in the world. In Shanmen Scenic Area, plenty of limestone landforms, stalactites, stalagmites and karst caves can be seen everywhere.


Siping City is located in the southwest of Jilin Province and at the junction of Liaoning, Jilin and Inner Mongolia. It adjoins Liaoyuan City to the east, Horqin Grassland to the west, Shenyang City to the south and Changchun City to the north.


Siping is located in the North Temperate Zone, enjoying typical continental monsoon climate. It has four distinct seasons including dry and windy spring, hot and rainy summer, temperate and cool autumn and long chilly winter. The annual average temperature is about 5.9℃.

Ecological Resources

In the mid-levels and hilly areas of Siping’s eastern, southern and western parts, there are undulating chains of mountains, lush growth of trees and abundant wildlife resources. The wild animals include Mongolian gazelle, foxes and wolves. There are 178 species of birds, such as pheasants and woodpeckers, and 27 kinds of fishes, such as carp, crucian carp, catfish and grass carp. There is also a great variety of wild plants, which include 50 varieties of edible wild plants, such as fiddlehead, mushroom and large-fruited Chinese hawthorn, and 293 varieties of medicinal plants, such as ginseng, the fruit of Chinese wolfberry and jute.

Erlonghu Scenic Spot

Erlonghu Lake is the largest reservoir of Jilin province, which enjoys advantaged natural landscape and human landscape, with the forest coverage of 96%. It’s reputed as the urban oxygen bar with beautiful landscape and elegant environment. At present, it has become a hot tourist attraction.

Yitong Manchu Folk Museum

Built in the year 1987, Yitong Manchu Folk Museum is the only museum that displays the cultural relics and folk customs of Manchu nationality in China. So far, the museum has 610 varieties of collections and over 3 thousands of exhibitions, and it has received about 1,500 groups and 200,000 visitors from home and abroad.

Hero Square

Covering an area of 101,000 square meters, Hero Square is mainly composed of the Sun Square, the Moon Square, Performance Square, Children’s Park and laser music fountain. The Sun Square covers an area of 11,890 square meters, consisting of annulated colonnades, national flag platform and belt-shaped water surface. The Moon Square covers an area of 5,360 square meters, which is composed of water surface, laser water curtain, music fountain, viewing platform and hydrophilic platform. The performance square covers an area of 2,010 suqare meters, mainly consisting of stage and audience stands.

Shanmen Scenic Area

Shanmen Scenic Area is located in Siping in the south of Jilin Province, about 10 kilometers from the downtown area. The scenic area covers an area of 35 square kilometers, consisting of Mount Xinghua, Mount Derentang and Shanmen reservoir. It boasts spectacular natural landscape, such as towering ancient trees, layer upon layer of peaks and knolls, luxuriant cypresses and pines and mountain flowers in full bloom.
