Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area
Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area was located in Songpan County of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, 56 kilometers away from Songpan County. It is composed of Huanglong Main Scenic Area and Muni Valley Scenic Area with an area of 700 square kilometers. Huanglong Main Scenic Area consists of Huanglong Valley, Danyun Gorge, Xuebaoding Peak and other scenic areas. Muni Valley Scenic Area is composed of Zhaga Waterfall and Erdaohai Scenic Area. It was ranked as the national key scenic area in 1982 by the State Council and was ranked as the nature reserve of Sichuan Province. Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area was listed on the World Heritage List in Dcember, 1992 by UNESCO.
Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area become well-known for its unique landscape, abundant resources, well-protected primordial ecosystem and important scientific and aesthetic values. It attracts numerous tourists there every year for its great snow mountain as magnificent as that of Canada, the canyon as marvelous as that of Wyoming, the virgin forest as thick as that of Colorado and the travertine colored pools as colorful as that of Yellowstone National Park.
There are a large variety of valuable species in the area. According to incomplete statistics, there are 1,300 species of plants in the protection area. There are national protective trees and plants, such as Cercidiphyllum japonicum, Tetracentron sinense, Larix mastersiana, hemlock spruce, Taxus chinensis, Snow Lotus Herb and Picea brachytyla. Beisdes, there are also abundant animal resources, including first class national protected animals such as giant pandas, golden monkeys, takins, leopards and Hailaeetus leucryphus. There are also a number of second class national protected animals, including lynx, sambar, red deer, goral, Tragopan temminckii and many other precious animals.
Best Visiting Time
The weather in Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is mainly wet and cold with long winters and very short summers. The annual average temperature is 7℃ and there is sufficient sunshine. The rainy seasons fall from May to August every year. The hottest season falls in July with the average temperature of 17℃ and the coldest season falls in January with the average temperature of 3℃. The best seasons for visiting the scenic area are from April to November.
Transport of Huanglong Scenic Area
Tourists can take the flight to Jiuhuang Airport in Chuanzhusi Town. The airport is about 43 kilometers away from Huanglong Scenic Area. During the tourist seasons, there are direct scheduled buses from the airport to Huanglong Scenic Area with the ticket price of about 23 yuan per person. Or tourists can also go to Huanglong Scenic Area from Xinnanmen bus station of Chengdu City.
