As Songpan is located in the northwestern Sichuan Plateau, consists of a number of climate types, such as warm temperate zone, cold temperate zone and subfrigid zone. The climate of Songpan varies greatly from the different parts of the region. Songpan has an annual average temperature of 6℃ and the lowest temperature of -21.1℃. The mean annual precipitation reaches about 730mm. The rainy season lasts from mid-May to early October, occupying 80% of the total precipitation of the year. The best time to visit Songpan is from May to December every year.
