Taiwan Weather

Last updated by joyce at 2014/10/29

Taiwan is surrounded by the sea, enjoying a subtropical maritime climate, which is warm and humid throughout the year. As Taiwan is divided by the Tropic of Cancer, the southern part of Taiwan enjoys subtropical climate, and North Taiwan has a tropical climate, with the annual average temperature of 22℃(except mountainous areas) and the yearly precipitation of over 2,000 mm. Generally speaking, there is neither intense heat in summer nor severe cold in winter. The short and warm spring lasts from March to May when rainy days last for about one or two weeks. Summer lasts from June to August with the average temperature of about 28℃. Autumn lasts from September to November when the weather is cool and comfortable, which is also the best time to visit Taiwan. The relatively cool winter lasts from December to the following February, and the lowest temperature is about 20℃. Taiwan is easily hit by torrential rain and typhoons in autumn and summer.

Influenced by the southwest monsoon, the rainy season lasts from May to September in Taiwan, which is very humid. Especially from May to June, the plum rain may cause severe geological disaster. Thus, it’s not suitable for visiting there during the rainy season. Typhoon season lasts from mid-June to late October. Especially from July to September, typhoon hits Taiwan frequently. Tourists had better avoid going out during typhoon period.
