Tianjin Arts Museum was built on the site of the former French East Huili Bank in 1902. Situated in a restored colonial mansion, fine collections fill this monument of human creativity. Paintings from the Yuan (1280–1368) and Qing (1644–1911) Dynasties share space with stunning examples of ancient calligraphy, elevating the first floor to "Do Not Ignore" status. Fankuan's (from the Song Dynasty) representative works are displayed, including Snow Scenery & Freezing Forest Picture. The collections include numerous works from Li Tang, Su Hanchen, Zhang Zeduan, Bianlu, and Qian Jin, four great artists from the Ming Dynasty, eight famous monk painters from the earlier Qing Dynasty, eight painters from the Jinling period, the Xin'an Painting Style, and the Yangzhou Painting Style. The museum also collects rare calligraphy words, such as the Tang Dynasty copy of Wang Xizhi, Hanqie Tie (Tie is a book containing models of handwritings or paintings for learners to copy), Great Cave Sculptures, Luoshen Fu from Zhao Mengfu, and others. Folk art fills the second floor, featuring carved figurines, porcelain, and meticulously designed giant kites. Traveling national and international exhibits highlight the third floor.

The museum has more than two thousand precious jade pieces, featuring articles from the Shang, the Zhou, and the West Han Dynasties. More than three thousand pieces of China represent kilns from different periods. Bronze wares include rare pieces such as Taotie engraved ancient utensils, Taipao ancient cooking vessels, Xiaoke ancient cooking vessels, and Kebo (an ancient Chinese musical instrument).
