Jinjiang River

Last updated by fabiowzgogo at 2016/2/20

Originated from Fanjing Mountain, Jinjiang River flows by Jiangkou County, through the whole Tongren City from east to west, then into Dongting Lake and finally Changjiang River. Big River and Small River, the upper reaches of Jinjiang River, meander through the city like the letter “S” and divide its urban area into three parts.

Main scenic spots:

1) Wuling & Small Suzhou (Bridge and Water City)

Tongren City is a mountainous city interspersed with waters. Three rivers (Big River, Small River and Jinjiang River) meander through the city and divide it into several natural parts. The most evident are its bridges of distinctive styles, including Xintan Bridge, Qingshui Bridge, Huaguoshan Bridge, Ximen Bridge, Xingshi Bridge, DajiangPing Bridge, Jinjiang Bridge, Xiananmen Suspension Bridge, Lusi Yan Bridge, and Dongmen Bridge. Under the bridges, fisherboats are bobbing up and down on the clear and undulating waters, and the riverside green trees are setting off one another, which makes the mountainous city more graceful and charming.

2) Twelve scenic spots along Jinjiang River

Carp in Water

There is a rock standing erect at the junction of Jinjiang River and Musha River, in the south of the city, 500 meters away from the city center. The rock is shaped like a carp. Its head, lip, gill, and eyes are especially true to life.

Cliffside Spring From Mountains

In the north of Tongren City, 4 kilometers from the city center, the water falling from the cliffs of two mountains along Small River is like a dragon flying down.

Spring Scenery along Big and Small Rivers

At the beginning of flood season, along the banks of Big River and Small River, green trees and grasses are swaying gently in the breeze, peach and plum trees are blooming beautifully, birds are flying freely, fish is jumping out of water occasionally, and people are going out for a walk happily for relaxation. Will you be moved by such a spring picture full of vigor?

Firm Rock in Midstream

At the center of the junction of Big River and Small River there stands a huge rock, on the top of which, pavilions have been built and rebuilt for several times. It is commonly called “copper rock” or “a firm rock in midstream”.

Towers and Pavilions on East Mountain

In the midst of a precipitous mountain along the river in the east of Tongren City, there were many towers, pavilions and temples in the past, and now there still exist some ancient buildings such as Chuanshang Pavilion, God of Thunder Temple, and Zhenwu Temple.

Drifting Clouds and Insurgent River

The south of East Mountain faces Jinjiang River, drifting clouds wreathing the mountain crags and the waves in the river flapping incessantly against the bank and rocks. In the Ming Dynasty, four Chinese letters “Yun Cai Jiang Sheng” were carved on the crags to describe such a beautiful picture. In 1874 in the Qing Dynasty, these four letters were carved again beautifully, each being as big as one square meter.

Sky-Reaching Pen Hill

Pen Hill, situated opposite East Mountain across Jinjiang River, looks like a very high and thin pen reaching the sky. When the sun is rising in the east, the clouds will become rosy and colorful--is it the masterpiece of the huge pen?

Moonlit Yuliang Beach

Yuliang Beach is located at the foot of Tianyi Hill and Taiyi Hill along Jinjiang River. Here, on a moonlit night, sitting on the beach, fondled by the refreshing breeze, listening to the river’s flowing sound, and watching numerous fisherboats shuttling back and forth on the river, you can totally relax yourself from a tiring day.

Scepter Hill

There stands a hill along the river in the east of Tongren City, about 2 kilometers from the city center. It is like a scepter held by the ancient officials who were received by an emperor, so it is called “Scepter Hill”. The folklore had it that the hill was the scepter left by Chao Guojiu (one of the famous eight immortals in Chinese folklore).

Misty Lujia Cave

Misty Lujia Cave is located on the bank of Jinjiang River, east of Tongren City, four kilometers from the city center.

Snow-Capped Screen Mountain

In the south of Tongren City, 10 kilometers from the city center, there is a mountain, which, shaped like a screen, is snow-capped all the year round.

Returning-Home Woodmen on Xiling Mountain

At dusk, the woodmen working on Xiling Mountain will return home, laughing and singing. Their happy mood may infect you and make you forget all the worries.
