The Ten Beasts Lanternsare lantern figures of ten divine beasts made in bamboos. The Ten Beasts represent ten immortals, namely Blue lion – Wenshu Buddha, white elephant – Puxian Buddha, Kylin – Wenzhong Buddha, Unicom – Dashizhi Buddha, Diting Beast – Earth God, Black Tiger – Zhao Gongming, Blue Bull – Huang Feihu, Elk – Jiang Ziya, Hou Beast – Fairy Mother in the Ninth Heaven, Horse – Emperor Wu in the Zhou Dynasty. The riders are made up with the beasts’ faces and dance with the lantern holding in hand. There are also eight girls aged between 11 to twelve carrying baskets of flowering, dancing and singing folk tunes. The Ten Beasts Lantern Dance is known as living fossil of primitive dancing, which is an ancient totem dance.
